Leadership Begins At Home

Sad state of affairs.  Today, in meeting with my elderly parent's case manager for home health care services provided in her home, I hear the most distressing and depressing news.  This case manager, one of 4 in the area serving over 80 elderly clients, told me that most of his clients were elderly and suffering from some degree of dementia.  Many other elderly persons who do not have someone watching over their care but are left instead to their own poor defenses.   This case manager advised me that unfortunately,  many of the elderly patients had caregivers but more likely family members that stole from their own parents or grandparents - money from their purses or drawers, household items, jewelry.  Unfortunately, this was not uncommon.  In fact, it was UNCOMMON for him to discover otherwise.  These are the luckier ones - some suffer from physical as well as emotional abuse or neglect.

What a sad state of affairs that our elderly are treated so disrespectfully, even in their own homes.
